Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) has been honoured as the ‘Best Geoscience State University in Nigeria’. This followed its emergence as 2nd Runner-Up in the Basin Evaluation Competition (BEC) out of five competing universities: Olabisi Onabanjo University; University of Ibadan; University of Nigeria, University of Lagos and itself. This remarkable achievement underscores our students' dedication, technical expertise, and preparedness for the challenges of the energy sector.

The Champion of the competition was revealed at the NAPE Award Night which held Monday, November 11, 2024 where the grand finale results were officially announced. The Annual International Conference and Competition with the theme ‘Resolving the Nigerian Energy Trilemma: Energy Security, Sustainable Growth and Affordability’ took place Sunday to Friday, November 10 to 14, 2024 at the Eko Hotel, Lagos. 

This prestigious event, organised under the auspices of the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE 2024), marked a significant highlight in students’ activities, with participants demonstrating skill, knowledge, and a deep understanding of the complexities of geology and geosciences. The competition, renowned for its rigour, tested students on their technical proficiency, teamwork, and analytical acumen in evaluating complex geological basins. The invaluable experience gained from this challenge equips participants with industry-ready skills, paving the way for successful careers in geoscience. NAPE has once again proven to be a stage for showcasing the exceptional talent and expertise of budding geoscientists in Nigeria.
