DIVISIONS/UNITS
v ADMINISTRATIVE
DIVISION
The
administrative division is saddled with the responsibility of policy
formulation such as collection development policy, and management of the
library. It oversees the operation of these policies and regulates everyday
activities of the library.
v RESOURCE
DEVELOPMENT DIVISION
This
division is in charge of selecting, ordering, acquiring, receiving,
accessioning and transfer of accessioned materials to the Processing Division.
v PROCESSING DIVISION
This
division performs different technical functions including cataloguing, classification,
assigning of Call Numbers, attaching of book pockets, book cards, due date slip,
and spine labels and transfer of processed materials to Readers’ Services
Division
v READER’S
SERVICES DIVISION
The
Readers’ Services division is the first port of contact between the Library Users
and the staff. This also serves as reading room for the library clienteles. It
provides and makes books and other materials available and accessible for
readership. This is also where library users are educated on how to use the
Library resources to satisfy their information needs. In this division, all
intending library users (students and staff) register and obtain library card
as well as borrower’s card to be eligible to borrow books of their interest.
v INSTITUTIONAL
REPOSITORY UNIT
Institutional
Repository is in charge of converting all print resources (hardcopy) to electronic
format (softcopy) using Dura Space (DSpace) software and uploaded in the
internet. Through this unit, scholarly works of academic and non-academic staff,
students’ research projects, works about and for Akwa Ibom State University are
made visible and can be viewed anywhere in the world.
v REFERENCE
UNIT
The Reference Unit in AKSU is where
fact finding information resources preserved and can only be consulted within
the confines of the reference unit. Such resources include dictionaries,
thesaurus, and encyclopedia, among others.
v REPROGRAPHIC
UNIT
This unit gives library users
opportunity to make photocopy of their personal document or library resources,
typing of document, bind their books, Projects, Thesis, Dissertations and have
a cool refreshment.
v E-LIBRARY
UNIT
The
e-library provides information resources in electronic format for all
categories of registered users. It allows users to access e-resources in the
online and offline databases, search/browse the Internet, and download relevant
information for research, examinations, and personal development.
