Professor Veronica Jarlath Umoh hails from Abiakpo Ikot Essien in Ikot-Ekpene LGA. She attended Holy Child Convent School, Abiakpo Ikot Essien and obtained her West African School Certificate in 1970 from Cornelia Connelly College, Uyo. She had her GCE A/L (London) in 1973 from College of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt. She graduated with a B.Sc degree in Biochemistry/Microbiology from Ahmadu Bello University in 1976, M.S. degree in Food Science from University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri, U.S.A in 1979 and PhD in Food Microbiology from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria in 1988. Between 1976 and 1977, Professor Umoh taught chemistry in Lutheran Secondary School, Ikot-Obong Edong while serving in the NYSC scheme. 

She was a Research Assistant in Milk Research Laboratory, Department of Food Science and Nutrition, University of Missouri, Columbia, Missouri, U.S.A. She joined the services of Ahmadu Bello University as an Assistant Lecturer in 1981 and rose to the rank of a Professor in 2001. She has been involved in the development of the microbiology curriculum for undergraduate, postgraduate diploma and degree training in Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. She has supervised over 150 undergraduate and over 70 postgraduate students.

 She has served as an external examiner for undergraduate and postgraduate programmes to at least nine Nigerian universities and has served on Nigerian Universities Commission accreditation teams to several universities. Prof (Mrs.) Umoh belongs to many professional societies among which are Nigerian Institute of Food Science and Technology (1985 to present); Nigerian Microbiology Society 1982-present; National Association of Women Academics (NAWAC), American Society for Microbiology (2010-present); and Society for Occupational Safety and Environmental Health (SOSEH)( 1998-present) in which society she was the Founding President.

Professor Veronica Umoh has authored/co-authored over 95 publications in peer- reviewed journals, contributed chapters in two books, presented over 50 papers in conferences of which 13 are published in reviewed proceedings and presented 7 technical papers and 7 invited lectures.

Presently at Akwa Ibom State University she has been appointed as Dean, Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences, Chairman, Akwa Ibom State University Board of Research (AKUBOR), Chairman, Anti � Corruption and Transparency Committee (ACTU), Chairman, Departmental Undergraduate and Postgraduate Curriculum Development, Member, Senate AKSU -TETFUND Committee and Representative of Senate, University Development Committee.
