AKSU Launches Faculty of Law Following NUC Approval

Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) has achieved a major milestone with the National Universities Commission (NUC) granting final approval for the commencement of its Faculty of Law. The new program, offering the full-time LL.B Law degree, will officially begin operations in the 2025/2026 academic session at the Main Campus.

The NUC’s decision follows a thorough resource verification visit that confirmed the University's readiness in terms of human and material resources.

The establishment of the Faculty of Law, which includes three departments (Private and Property Law, Jurisprudence and International Law, and Commercial and Industrial Law), is hailed as a significant achievement under the leadership of Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Otoabasi Akpan.

In addition to the Law Faculty, Professor Akpan's recent tenure has seen the rapid establishment of the Faculties of Communication and Media Studies, and Computing and Information Technology, as well as the successful accreditation of numerous post-graduate programs.

The move is seen by university officials as a seamless implementation of Governor Pastor Umo Eno’s "Arise Agenda," aimed at expanding access to quality education for Akwa Ibom youths.
