History of the Programme

The Centre for Automotive Training, Transport and Logistics of the Akwa Ibom State University, Ikot Akpaden, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area was established in the 2022/2023 academic session by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Nse U. Essien. The Pioneer Director of the Centre is Engr. Dr. Godwin I. Ekong.

The Centre runs programmes leading to the award of Certificates in Automotive Training and Transport and Logistics. The programmes are for six months duration of study consisting of six months of intensive lectures, seminars, practical work, and two weeks of industrial training. These programmes are prepared to meet the basic academic requirements of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) as well as other such bodies.

The Centre is solidly established and will enjoy full accreditation from the Council for the Regulation of Engineering (COREN) and other such bodies.

Philosophy of the Programme

The philosophy of the Centre for Automotive Training, Transport and Logistics (CATTL) of the Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) is to produce highly trained auto–technicians, Transport and Logistics personnel with profound diagnostic skills, theoretical and practical academic backgrounds to cope with a broad spectrum of challenges of self-reliance in automotive industries and national development. The curriculum of this programme is designed to develop skilled auto-technician and Transport personnel workforce to solve challenging automotive technological, transport, and logistics problems.

Mission Statement

In line with the mission of the University, the Centre aims to apply sound and explicable scientific and engineering principles in training and research towards innovation, diagnostics, management, and maintenance of automotive systems, transport, and logistics services.

Vision Statement

The vision of the Centre for Automotive Training, Transport and Logistics (CATTL) is to produce scientifically and technologically knowledgeable technicians and artesian for the Automotive Industries, Government, Oil and Gas, Aviation, Transport and Logistics, Manufacturing, Agriculture, Health and Education sectors, as well as the Leisure Industries, and Consultancy Services amongst others.

Objective of the Programme

The primary objective of the Centre for Automotive Training, Transport and Logistics in AKSU is to train students, auto-technicians, auto-mechanics, drivers, and transport officers who will be proficient in the application of scientific and automotive principles to develop necessary technical skills and techniques for diagnosis and services of automotive vehicles, equipment and the provision of the needed services including ease of transportation and logistics of materials, goods and person in the nation in particular, and human society in general.  Thus, the specific aims of the programme are to develop properly and highly trained students, auto-technicians, auto-mechanics, drivers, and transport officers, and automotive, mechanical, and aerospace engineers who can:

(i)      Design and produce components, machines, equipment, and systems with local raw materials towards global applications.

(ii)   Design and develop new production techniques and modify the existing ones for the effective operation of the nation’s automotive industries and other sectors.

(iii)   Diagnose and service/maintain all automotive vehicles, equipment and other mechanical engineering systems to perform optimally in our local environment.

(iv)    Be self-reliant and enhance employment opportunities and

(v)     Provide adequate leadership, guidance, and supervision of complex automotive engineering, transport, and logistics tasks.
