Professor Atei Mark Okorobia was born on the 5th of March, 1962 in Bayelsa.

He began his Educational journey with Seventh-day Adventist Primary School, Abule-Oja, Yaba-Lagos State, Nigeria, where he obtained the First School Leaving Certificate in 1975.
\r\n
He then proceeded to Nembe National Grammar School, Nembe, Bayelsa State, Nigeria where he bagged his West African School Certificate in 1980.
\r\n
He later proceeded for his tertiary education in the University of Port Harcourt, River State, where he obtained a Bachelor?s Degree in History, in 1986.
\r\n
His quest for knowledge propelled him to go for his masters and Ph.D degrees in the same university where he obtained M.A in History in 1989 and Ph.D History (African History with emphasis on the Niger Delta) in 1999.

His area of academic specialization is in African History and Afro-American History and Slave Trade Studies.
\r\n
His outstanding academic performance got him a scholarship from, 1978-1980.
\r\n
He is a recipient of several prestigious academic awards such as Best Graduating Student in History, (1985/86 Session). University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria.

Best Graduating Student in the Faculty of Humanities, (1985/86 Session), University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria; in the same University, just to mention a few.

He was also on the Dean?s List of Academic Excellence from 1982/83 to 1985/86 academic sessions.

He is a Fellow, Institute of Corporate Executives of Nigeria (ficen) since 2000.

He is an Associate Member, Nigeria Institute of Public Relations (anipr) since 2000
