PROFESSIONAL SUMMARY
Dr. Samuel Ukpong Okon is a seasoned university lecturer with a strong academic and research background in ocean sciences. He holds a B.Sc in Marine Biology, an M.Sc in Physical Oceanography from Bangor University, UK, and a Ph.D. in Ocean Engineering from Zhejiang University, China. With over a decade of research and teaching experience in the Department of Marine Sciences at Akwa Ibom State University, Nigeria, Dr. Sam has made significant contributions to the field through his academic work and collaborative research. He completed two years of joint postdoctoral research at the Suzhou Industrial Technological Research Institute and Ocean College of Zhejiang University in China.
As a principal investigator, Dr. Sam has presided over research projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) and the China Postdoctoral Science Foundation. He has also actively participated as a co-investigator in other high-impact projects funded by NSFC and Zhejiang Province. Dr. Sam has pursued professional development through oceanography-related courses and earned certifications from respected institutions across the USA, Canada, Germany, Norway, and Singapore. His dedication to academic excellence is reflected in his numerous scholarship and fellowship awards, including the Marine Scholarship of China (CSC) and Nigeria's Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) fellowship.A prolific researcher, Dr. Sam has published extensively in various disciplines within Ocean Sciences and Engineering. He has presented his research findings at international conferences and workshops and serves as a reviewer for esteemed SCI journals and academic book projects. His practical experience includes conducting oceanographic surveys aboard R/V Prince Madog in the United Kingdom. In addition to his technical expertise, Dr. Sam possesses strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, making him a valuable asset in both academic and professional settings. He is also an active member of the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR), the Association for the Sciences of Limnology and Oceanography (ASLO), the Organization of African Academic Doctors (OAAD), etc.
