{"id":2112,"date":"2025-04-27T07:19:56","date_gmt":"2025-04-27T07:19:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aksu.edu.ng\/newsite\/?page_id=2112"},"modified":"2025-04-27T07:22:29","modified_gmt":"2025-04-27T07:22:29","slug":"aksu-vc-flags-off-3rd-aksufest-of-performances","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/aksu.edu.ng\/newsite\/aksu-vc-flags-off-3rd-aksufest-of-performances\/","title":{"rendered":"AKSU VC FLAGS OFF 3RD AKSUFEST OF PERFORMANCES"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n\n<h2><p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span lang=\"EN-GB\">AKSU VC FLAGS OFF 3RD AKSUFEST OF\nPERFORMANCES<\/span><o:p><\/o:p><\/p><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\">The Vice-Chancellor, Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU), Prof. Nse U.\nEssien has flagged off the 3rd AKSU Festival (AKSUFEST) of Performances with\nthe theme \u2018Globalising Indigenous Artistic and Cultural heritage.\u2019 This was\nperformed during the opening ceremony of the festival Monday, April 14, 2025 at\nthe Pinnacle Theatre, Obio Akpa Campus, Oruk Anam Local Government Area.<o:p><\/o:p><\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\">Performing the flag off ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor congratulated the\nHead of Department, Dr. Lucy Iseyen for working conscientiously to reposition\nthe Department and all the lecturers for their positive contributions to its\nprogress. Prof Essien lauded the 300 level students of the Department for the\nexcellent dance performance and added that the department is known for its\ndelightful presentations. He encouraged the students to work towards becoming\nmajor stakeholders in the creative and entertainment industry in due course. He\nwelcomed all participants and wished them a successful programme.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><o:p><\/o:p><\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\">The Keynote Speaker, Prof. Esekong Andrew-Essien advocated reinstating\ncultural practices in performances and events through re-engagement,\nre-packaging, presentation and publicity via different platforms for\nvisibility. He recommended that arts should be used as a tool for cultural\ndiplomacy through exhibition in museums, galleries and end of year events to\nacquire prominence and emphasised that celebrating cultural diversity and\npropagating the culture by showcasing arts could raise more awareness about our\nhistory and invaluable contributions to the society. <o:p><\/o:p><\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\">In his speech, the Chairman of the occasion, Adede Aniekpeno Mkpanang,\nwho is also the President of Ati Anaan, congratulated the Head of Department,\nall the lecturers, staff and students for the colourful ceremony. He promised\nto attend other activities of the programme in order to interact adequately\nwith the organisers and participants.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><o:p><\/o:p><\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\">The Host and Festival Director, Dr. Lucy Iseyen, who is also the Head,\nDepartment of Performing Arts, in her welcome address, said that the festival\nwas a celebration of creativity, talent, and the rich cultural heritage of the\nState. She assured that the festival would showcase the artistic prowess of the\nstudents through craft exhibitions, theatrical, music and dance performances.\nShe appreciated the Vice-Chancellor for his unwavering support for the arts and\nstudents\u2019 development, which have been the driving force of the festival. She\nthanked all the guests for honouring the invitation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><o:p><\/o:p><\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\">Highlight of the event was presentation of awards to the\nVice-Chancellor, Prof. Nse Essien; Justice of the Appeal Court, His Lordship,\nJustice Ntong F. Ntong; Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, CLEDOP\nWest Africa Limited (CWAL), Port Harcourt, Pastor (Dr.) and Deaconess Clement\nUdoh; the Majority Leader, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Sunday\nJohnny; Chief Executive Officer, Citizens Global Computers, Uyo, Engr.\nChristian Ogechukwu Ume and goodwill messages delivered by all the award recipients.The\nHead of Obio Akpa Campus and Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences; a Director\nin the Council for Arts and Culture, Dr. Unwana Joshua also gave goodwill\nmessages. The event also featured exhibition of Sparkling Pinnacle Products by\nthe Director, Career Services Centre and AKSUFEST 2025 Brand Ambassador, Prof.\nEdna Akpan; a command performance of \u2018ISAN\u2019 by 300 level students of\nchoreography and kineasthetics; fashion parade and carnival.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><o:p><\/o:p><\/p><p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align:justify\">Present during the event were: the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic,\nProf. Oto-Abasi Akpan; the Bursar, Dr. Jacob Eseneyen; the Dean, Faculty of\nAgricultural Sciences, Prof. Jemima T. Ekanem; Prof. Uwemedimo Atakpo, Prof.\nEffiong Johnson and other lecturers from the Department of Performing Arts; the\nPostgraduate Coordinator, Faculty of Arts, Dr. Udoinwang; the Head, Department\nof English, Dr. Monica Udoette; His Royal Highness, Obong Ifiok Umana, the Abak\nof Abak\/the Village Head of Abak; the Senior Legislative Aide to the Senate\nPresident on Legislative Matters, Hon.
