{"id":2020,"date":"2024-11-07T07:46:28","date_gmt":"2024-11-07T07:46:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aksu.edu.ng\/newsite\/?page_id=2020"},"modified":"2024-11-07T08:11:29","modified_gmt":"2024-11-07T08:11:29","slug":"faculty-of-education-holds-1st-international-conference","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/aksu.edu.ng\/newsite\/faculty-of-education-holds-1st-international-conference\/","title":{"rendered":"FACULTY OF EDUCATION HOLDS 1ST INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n\nFACULTY OF EDUCATION HOLDS 1ST INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The Faculty of Education at Akwa Ibom State University\n(AKSU) hosted its 1st International Conference, themed \u2018Education in a Period\nof Rising Insecurity, Kakistocracy, and Economic Downturn,\u2019 Tuesday, November\n5, 2024, at the University&#8217;s Main Campus in Ikot Akpaden, Mkpat Enin Local\nGovernment Area.<o:p><\/o:p><\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\">In his address, the Vice-Chancellor and Chief Host of the\noccasion, Prof. Nse U. Essien, emphasised the essential role of education in\nsocietal transformation, stating, \u201cThe best way to change society is by\neducation.\u201d He urged participants to have in-depth discussions on strategies to\naddress the rising issue of kidnappings in schools and society, asserting that\nthe conference would provide valuable insights to support technological\nadvancement and professional development. Prof. Essien welcomed the keynote\nspeaker, lead paper presenters, and participants. He expressed delight at the\nFaculty of Education\u2019s 1st International Conference and encouraged making it an\nannual event.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"> <o:p><\/o:p><\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\">The keynote speaker, Prof. Emmanuel E. Ekuri from the\nUniversity of Calabar, presented a paper entitled \u2018Education as a Beacon of\nHope in Turbulent Times.\u2019 Prof. Ekuri highlighted education as a transformative\nforce, essential in fostering resilience and stability during socio-economic\nand political upheavals. He stressed the role of education in equipping\nindividuals with knowledge and skills for adaptability, stability, and peace\nbuilding.<o:p><\/o:p><\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\">The Chairman of the conference and former Dean, Faculty of\nEducation, Dr. Patrick J. Uko, stressed Nigeria\u2019s multi-faceted challenges,\nincluding: insecurity, insurgencies, kidnappings, economic downturn and high\ncost of education, all of which he attributed to mismanagement and\nkakistocracy, with negative impact on students and educators. He recommended\nthat education practitioners must proffer solutions to successfully tackle such\nissues.<o:p><\/o:p><\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\">In his welcome remarks, the Dean, Faculty of Education, Dr.\nIniobong E. Akpan, said that the conference theme was apt, considering that\nrising insecurity, economic hardship, and political mismanagement have strained\neducational systems worldwide. He therefore called on educators, researchers,\nand policymakers to explore options that will fortify learning and inspire\nresilience during these challenging times. Dr. Akpan thanked the\nVice-Chancellor and AKSU Management for their support with organising the conference.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<o:p><\/o:p><\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\">Lead papers were presented by Prof. Eme Joseph on the theme\n\u2018Education in a Period of Rising Insecurity, Kakistocracy, and Economic\nDownturn\u2019 and by Prof. Imo E. Umoinyang on \u2018Actualisation of Nigeria\u2019s\nEducation Goals Amidst Rising Insecurity, Kakistocracy, and Economic Downturn,\u2019\nboth from the University of Uyo. Parallel sessions continued over two days with\nvarious scholars presenting research papers.<o:p><\/o:p><\/p><p class=\"MsoNormal\">Conference highlights included: cultural performances by\nstudents, goodwill messages from the Managing Director of AKSU MicroFinance\nBank, Mr. Effiong Eliada, and a representative of the Executive Chairman of\nMkpat Enin Local Government Area, Hon. (Engr.)
