History Of The Library<\/h2>\nThe Akwa Ibom State\nUniversity (AKSU) Library is a multi-campus library comprising of the main\ncampus Library at Ikot Akpaden, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, measuring\nabout 2034m\u00b2 and the Obio Akpa Campus Library in Oruk Anam Local Government\nArea, with a usable area of 233m\u00b2. The subsidiary AKSU Library at Obio Akpa Campus\nwas originally the defunct College of Agriculture Library. The two campuses\nLibrary assumed full status as academic libraries during the 2010\/2011 academic\nsession and have been operating as such ever since. The Ikot Akpaden Campus\nLibrary supports academic programmes of the Faculties of Engineering, Education,\nBiological Sciences, and Physical Sciences. While Obio Akpa Campus Library\nserves the Faculties of Agriculture, Arts, Social Sciences, and Management\nSciences. These Faculties and Departments also have their separate Faculty\nResource Centre, which serve the information needs of the faculty members and\nstudents.\n

About The Library<\/h2>\nThe AKSU Library was established to meet the university\u2019s academic goals\nof teaching, learning, research, and community service in line with the\nNational University Commission\u2019s (NUC) mandate for University Libraries. AKSU\nLibrary acquires information resources that support the school curriculum and\ntheir programmes. The information resources are made available in both print\nand non-print formats to satisfy the information need of the diverse library\nusers \u2013 students, teaching and non-teaching staff, researchers, and other community\nmembers. The library also provides professional services to ensure effective\nuse of the available information resources.\n

v <\/span><\/span>ADMINISTRATIVE\nDIVISION<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>

The\nadministrative division is saddled with the responsibility of policy\nformulation such as collection development policy, and management of the\nlibrary. It oversees the operation of these policies and regulates everyday\nactivities of the library.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>

This\ndivision is in charge of selecting, ordering, acquiring, receiving,\naccessioning and transfer of accessioned materials to the Processing Division. <\/o:p><\/span><\/p>

v <\/span><\/span>PROCESSING  DIVISION<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>

This\ndivision performs different technical functions including cataloguing, classification,\nassigning of Call Numbers, attaching of book pockets, book cards, due date slip,\nand spine labels and transfer of processed materials to Readers\u2019 Services\nDivision<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>

v <\/span><\/span>READER\u2019S\nSERVICES DIVISION<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>

The\nReaders\u2019 Services division is the first port of contact between the Library Users\nand the staff. This also serves as reading room for the library clienteles. It\nprovides and makes books and other materials available and accessible for\nreadership. This is also where library users are educated on how to use the\nLibrary resources to satisfy their information needs. In this division, all\nintending library users (students and staff) register and obtain library card\nas well as borrower\u2019s card to be eligible to borrow books of their interest.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>

v <\/span><\/span>INSTITUTIONAL\nREPOSITORY UNIT<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>

Institutional\nRepository is in charge of converting all print resources (hardcopy) to electronic\nformat (softcopy) using Dura Space (DSpace) software and uploaded in the\ninternet. Through this unit, scholarly works of academic and non-academic staff,\nstudents\u2019 research projects, works about and for Akwa Ibom State University are\nmade visible and can be viewed anywhere in the world.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>

v <\/span><\/span>REFERENCE\nUNIT<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>

The Reference Unit in AKSU is where\nfact finding information resources preserved and can only be consulted within\nthe confines of the reference unit. Such resources include dictionaries,\nthesaurus, and encyclopedia, among others.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>

This unit gives library users\nopportunity to make photocopy of their personal document or library resources,\ntyping of document, bind their books, Projects, Thesis, Dissertations and have\na cool refreshment.<\/o:p><\/span><\/p>

The\ne-library provides information resources in electronic format for all\ncategories of registered users.
