Dr. Ekong is an accomplished researcher and mechanical engineer with specialisation in turbomachinery engineering. He is professional engineer and has an excellent creativity competencies in solving both technical and none technical problems with working experience in various sectors. He is a Fellow and the Immediate Former Chapter Chairman, Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE), Akwa Ibom State Chapter and a former National Council Member.

Prior to Godwin’s current post at AKSU, he was a researcher, Thermo-Fluid Mechanics Research Centre and Rolls-Royce Supported University Technology Centre, University of Sussex, United Kingdom and the Best M.Sc., Student in Turbomachinery - Department of Engineering and Design, School of Science and Technology, University of Sussex, United Kingdom (2006/07 Academic Session). He is a Rolls-Royce Plc trained and Certificated Research Engineer.  A Reviewer for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) International Mechanical Engineering Congress and Exposition (IMECE) 2013.

General interests include but not limited to, gas turbine engine technologies, such as Turbomachinery design, internal air systems and other flow system design for gas turbine engine applications; general mechanical equipment and system optimization; creativity, creativity tools and innovation, especially their application in mechanical engineering processes and industries including structured brainstorming, lateral thinking and teoriya resheniya izobretatelskikh zadatch (TRIZ), literally: (theory of inventive problem solving); design process and design rationale; concept and system design. The application of 40 Inventive principles in the management of the maintenance, repair & overhauls (hanger) section and general airport operations.

He is actively involved in engineering research, development and application which include but not limited to Advances in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Technology, Problem Solving in Engineering Education, Research and Practice. He has contributed to twenty-four (24) internationally refereed journals, conferences and technical publications, with ten (10) international technical presentations and three (3) local technical presentations.

Dr. Ekong has been involved in an International Mechanical Engineering Research, Development and Application as a Co-investigator with Rolls-Royce Plc and the European Union (EU), in an EU Framework 6 programme known as New Aero Core Concept (NEWAC).  He has attended well over 100 conferences, seminars, workshops and training programmes. And has presented ten (10) technical presentations in six (6) International conferences by American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), the European TRIZ Association (ETRIA) in Denver – Colorado USA, Houston –Texas USA, San Diego – California USA, Dublin – Republic of Ireland, Lisbon – Portugal, Paris –France and a presenter in three (3) Rolls-Royce Supported University Technology Centre, University of Sussex, United Kingdom seminars. He has also presented two (2) technical presentations, in NIMechE Akwa Ibom State Chapter’s organized conference and workshop, and one (1) Nigerian Society of Engineers, Uyo Branch, Technical seminar series. A member of two (2) professional research groups. As a seasoned administrator, he has held several administrative positions within the university setup.

• Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Turbomachniery, University of Sussex - UK, 2007
• Bachelor of Engineering (B.Eng.) in Mechanical Engineering (Second Class Upper [2:1]), University of Uyo - Nigeria, 2002
