Profile
Engr. Dr. Ikpe Jimmy Udom is a Lecturer and Head, Department of Agricultural Engineering, Akwa Ibom State University. He is a graduate of University of Nigeria, Nsukka where he studied Agricultural Engineering for his Bachelor, Master and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in 1991, 2009 and 2018 respectively in Soil and Water Resources Engineering.
After his mandatory National Youth Service at Egbe Oba High School, Ikole Ekiti in former Ondo State, Engr. Dr. Udom joined the service of Akwa Ibom State Government and has served in various agencies and institutions including the Akwa Ibom state College of Agriculture, Obio Akpa, where he rose to the position of Acting Director, School of Engineering.
At the defunct of the College of Agriculture in 2012, Dr. Udom was the only engineering academic staff absorbed by the Akwa Ibom State University as a pioneer Staff and Head of the newly established Department of Agricultural Engineering up to 2014. He successfully hosted and obtained both COREN and NUC approvals for the Agricultural Engineering programme.
As the current Head of Department, Dr. Udom has coordinated the commencement and NUC approval of Postgraduate (PG) programmes that has admitted the first batch of postgraduate candidates into her programmes in Soil and Water Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Farm Power and Machinery and Food Engineering and Processing options. He has also coordinated the successful reaccreditation of the undergraduate programme and has caused a Curriculum Review of the Agricultural Engineering programme to reflect new global trends, thinking and demands on Agricultural Engineering.
Engr. Dr. Udom’s recent research interest includes wastewater reclamation and irrigation, treatment and alternative beneficial uses of animal production wastewaters in food production, smart irrigation and pollution control using emerging natural bioremediation technologies such as constructed wetlands. He has published in both international and national journals and presented papers at conferences. He has also reviewed papers for many local and international journals.
Engr. Dr. Udom is registered with COREN, NSE, IAHS and actively involved in NIAE activities where he had served at various capacities in Akwa Ibom State and is currently a national EXCO member (EX-Officio). He has maintained a close relationship with other engineering associations where he is a regular paper presenter on engineering issues. Dr. Udom is a visiting lecturer in Soil and Water Engineering to many universities.
Engr. Dr. Udom is happily married and the marriage is blessed with children.
