Profile

Mr. Otuekong E. Ekong began his university education in 1997 with the pursuit of a BSc degree in Physics. This was in response to his childhood passion for observing the physical properties of matter and hacking electrical and electronic circuits. At the time of completion of his BSc degree in 2003, his attention was drawn to the promising opportunities in the Information and Communication Technology industry as a result of the growing momentum of mobile telecommunications in Nigeria. In response, he decided to undertake a Certificate programme in Information Technology where he acquired skills in software development. This enabled him to take up appointment as an ICT trainer in a private company.

After 18 months as an ICT trainer, Mr. Ekong was fortunate to take up appointment as a Graduate Assistant in the Department of Computer Science in a public university in Nigeria. In 2008, he obtained an MSc degree in Computer Science (majoring in Enterprise Systems Development). As of date, he holds the rank of Lecturer II and have taught several undergraduate and postgraduate diploma courses especially in the areas of computer hardware, digital logic design, software engineering, database design and management, Theory of Computing, and Information Technology Law.

Mr. Ekong's research interest border around Internet of Things, Smart Cities, Citizen Science and Crowd Sensing. So far, he have recorded over four conference publications and over two journal publications. He is a member of the Nigeria Computer Society and has held several responsibilities both within and outside the university community, such as: GSS Computer Coordinator, Final Year Project Coordinator, and SIWES Coordinator
