Profile


Dr. Joseph Etim Okon hails from Mbak Ikot Abasi, Mbak Etoi in Uyo Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State. Dr. Okon obtained his B. Sc. (Hons.) in Botany and Ecological Studies in 2009, M. Sc. degree in Plant Physiology/Phytochemistry in 2013 and Ph.D degree in Plant Physiology/Phytochemistry (2017) in University of Uyo, Uyo. Dr. Okon also has a Certificate in Computer Appreciation and Basic Applications (2009). He is a lecturer in Department of Botany, Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) ? Nigeria. He has taught in University of Uyo as a part-time lecturer in 2014-1016 and later continue his teaching career in Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) in 2016. His major areas of teaching and research are General Biology, General Mycology, Plant Physiology, Plant Tissue Culture, Economic Botany (Medicinal Plants), Phytochemistry, Environmental Pollution, Plant Evolution/Diversity and Environmental Audit/Monitoring in both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. He has to his credit 34 Scientific journal articles published in some reputable local and international journals in the areas of pollution, plant physiology and phytochemistry of medicinal plants. Dr. Okon is currently a member of Botanical Society of Nigeria (BOSON) and Biopesticides Society of Nigeria (BpSN). He has chaired some Committees in the Department and Faculty: Chairman, Curriculum Review/Academic Brief Committee, Botany Department, Chairman, AKSU Gate Beautification Committee, Chairman, Faculty Staff Welfare, Member Research Team, Faculty of Biological Sciences, Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU), Member, Faculty e-Library Committee, Member Examination Misconduct Committee, Department of Botany, Akwa Ibom State University and also a Departmental Examination Officer from 2016 till date. Dr. Okon is reviewer for three (03) International and two (02) Local Journals and a member research team, coastal water monitoring, Oron, Akwa Ibom State. He is a practical herbalist since 2016. Dr. Okon is married.
