Profile

Dr. Ifiok O. Ekwere is a lecturer in the department of Chemistry, Akwa Ibom State University. He obtained a PhD in Environmental Chemistry (2019) from the University of Port Harcourt, with a thesis on the photocatalytic degradation of pollutants in aqueous solution using titanium dioxide ? UV light system. He lectures several courses in the department, such as General chemistry, Inorganic chemistry, Nuclear & Radiochemistry, Practical chemistry, Organometallic chemistry etc. Some of the positions he has held in the department include the departmental timetable officer, SIWES coordinator and examination officer. Dr. Ekwere is a member of the Chemical Society of Nigeria and has attended/presented papers in the annual conferences of the Chemical Society of Nigeria and Polymer institute of Nigeria. Furthermore, he has obtained certifications and trainings with the Nigerian Institute of Safety Professionals, International Computer Driving License (ICDL) and Royal Society of Chemistry GC-MS Training: A Hands-on Approach. His research interests include pollution monitoring/ control of environmental compartments, metal speciation analysis, photocatalytic degradation of organic and inorganic pollutants and synthesis of inorganic compounds for environmental applications. Dr. Ekwere has published over sixteen (16) articles in local and international journals.
