Profile


Dr Ukponobong E. Antia hails from Itukho in Ibiono Ibom LGA. He attended Monica Kindergarten Nursery and Elementary School, Nigerian Christian Institute and Saint Mary?s Senior Science College, Ediene Abak, where he obtained his West African School Certificate in 2002. He graduated with a B.Sc. degree in Microbiology from University of Uyo in 2007. He further obtained his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Industrial Microbiology from the Prestigious University of Ibadan, Nigeria in 2011 and 2016, respectively.

He joined the services of Akwa Ibom State University in 2012 and rose to the rank of Lecturer I in 2019. He has been actively involved in the development of curriculum for the teaching of B.Sc. and M.Sc Microbiology Students in Akwa Ibom State University. He has supervised over 50 undergraduates and currently supervising 6 Postgraduate students.

Dr Ukponobong Antia belongs to many professional societies among which are, the Nigerian Society for Microbiology and American Society for Microbiology. He has published over 15 publications in peer reviewed journal, contributed to chapters in a book and presented papers in conferences. At Akwa Ibom State University, he has been appointed an Examination Officer, Departmental Postgraduate Coordinator, among other Departmental, Faculty and University appointments. He is currently the Head of Department and also a member, University Senate Business Committee.?



Research Area


I have worked extensively on the production of bioethanol from mannan polysaccharides (Conversion of Wealth). Other areas of research include: Microbial Physiology and Metabolism, Yeast studies, Industrial biotechnology
